Project closing ceremony: starting a new phase

During the official closing ceremony of the project HCMC, moving towards the sea with climate change adaptation on April 8th 2013,  the Dutch consortium VCAPS presented the results of the project to the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. After the presentation the Climate Adaptation Strategy for Ho Chi Minh City was handed over to the vice chairman of the Peoples Committee of HCMC, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tin and the vice mayor of the city of Rotterdam, Mrs. Van Huffelen. The results of the project were well received by the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and the City of Rotterdam. Both cities would like to continue their successful collaboration and therefore a new memorandum of understanding was signed. On behalf of Rotterdam, vice Mayor Mrs. Van Huffelen signed the memorandum that is the starting point for a new phase in the cooperation between Rotterdam and HCMC.

The Climate Adaptation Strategy is the product of 1,5 years of work by the involved departments of HCMC assisted by the VCAPS consortium. During the ceremony the six Strategic Directions of the CAS were presented and illustrated by examples from the pilot districts studies which were performed in the project. Mr. Nguyen Huu Tin praised the strategic role that the project plays in the process towards a climate proof HCMC.

Implementation of the CAS is now the task of the HCMC Climate Adaptation Steering Board chaired by Mr. Le Hoang Quan, chairman of the HCMC Peoples Committee. The Steering Board will be assisted by the Climate Change Bureau.  The City of Rotterdam will keep supporting the city focusing on dissemination of knowledge and supporting the process of implementation. The Climate Adaptation Strategy is published in the products section of this website.
